The P&P Mather VDM LeTROT Handicap looked to be a competitive race on paper and it certainly was. Ten horses evenly spread across the 40 yard trails to start, ended with five horses within five lengths of each other at the finish line. Emirat du Levant (Richard Haythornthwaite took all the shortcuts from his 40 yard trail to finish fifth. Flash de Longuerue (Mike Evans) was a fast finishing fourth after only breaking cover in the final 150 metres. Enez Leman (Michael O’Mahony) got the perfect trip to finish third. Crack des Noyers (Rhun Wilson) showed his staying credentials again to finish second, after sitting parked the entire mile and a half race. But it was Catalane du Canet and Steve Williams who set a solid tempo up front and made it impossible for the chasing pack to prevent an all the way victory.
